Just finished Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon. I was such a big fan of the movie-- what with Michael Douglas being so old and so tired, Downey Jr. being so delighted and smirky, and Tobey Maguire being so Tobey Maguire without being irritating at all-- that there was very little chance here that I wasn't going to enjoy this book. The narrative is vivid and adds so much more to the story than the movie could give. But the book does drag and near stalls out in the middle at the Passover dinner. Chabon seems to have fallen so in love with the character of Grady Tripp that he doesn't understand that what the reader reeeeeally wants to see is more Terry Crabtree. Still, the book pulls it out in the end and it is an easy and lovely read. Not Kavalier and Clay lovely, but lovely nonetheless.
